About me

My name is Sinead Kampff and I am a 25 year old artist from Kildare. I was born in Portlaoise Co.Laois and grew up in Clane Co.Kildare. I graduated from The National College of Art and Design in 2022 and have since joined as a full time member of Ormond Artist studios.

My current practice is looking at the ideals surrounding abandonment, this manifests mainly in the abandonment of buildings. The societal connections we create with these types of spaces interests me, why do we preserve the dereliction? Why do we abandon space in the first place? These questions are considered when choosing the spaces I visit and document. I have a deep interest in architecture that also ties into the ideals of my work, seeing the deterioration of the architecture and being able to capture the state it is at when I visit as a snapshot in time as it slowly erodes, crumbles or even is manually changed.

I have been out documenting spaces of interest through photography and have built up a catalog of places and spaces that I use to inspire the work. A lot of the paintings I create from this process are all about making decisions in the moment and deciding what to include and what not to as Iā€™m putting paint on the canvas, I like to play with blank space and the idea of the buildings or spaces being left in the open, leaving large percentages of the canvas empty or even blanking out details on buildings or signs.
